it may not seem like much to get sentimental about, but i’m really kind of sad that sony have announced they will no longer be manufacturing walkman cassette players. my walkman is one of the first gifts i really remember receiving, and i kind of have an attachment to it.
i fondly remember, at no older than about 4 or 5 years old, my brother and i waiting next to the radio for them to play either peaches by the presidents of the united states of america or the men in black theme song by will smith so we could record them onto our walkmen and listen to them over and over.
and i remember when we went to queensland in 2000, my brother and i still had our walkmen, and my brother would record olympic games commentary in silly voices to entertain me.
and i know it doesn’t matter anymore because the format is obsolete, and it’s not like sony cancelling the line will take away these memories or anything. but permit me feeling a little nostalgic. you’d need to be agent j to erase those memories.
